Things you will need:
Laptop Computer
Car with a motronic 7 ECU. (b5s4 is one example of such)
Dumb Mode serial to OBDII cable or USB FTDI OBDII cable.
Windows computer (for this guide anyway)
binary for ECU software version. Does not need to match your exact version, does need to match the box, you can use a stock BIN on a modded car.
Steps:
1. Download and extract ME7 logger. Extract where ever you want, I did the the C:\ root directory.
2. Place your ecu image (binary file) into the "bin" directory of the ME7 folder. Your ecu image will be assumed to be "mybin.bin"
3. Open up a command propt by going to start ment, run and typing in CMD and clicking "OK". (If you are using windows vista or windows 7 use the file browser and navigate to the folder ME7Logger/bin folder. Where the file path shows at the top of the page, type in CMD and click return. This should bring up a command propt already in the correct directory)
If you need to get the command prompt fo the correct directory, start typing the following: "cd C:\" then enter the next letter of the directory you want and hit return until the correct one appears. Keep doing this process until you get the "bin" directory you placed the binary in earlier.
4. At the command prompt type the following command: ME7Info.exe -o mybin.ecu mybin.bin
This will hunt your binary for the correct address locations for the variables. This step replaces the "properties" files in APR's ECUX. This also creates a basic example logging configuation file.
5. Determine what COM port (or USB) your cable uses. Mine uses COM3.
6. Make a windows batch file. Examples of this are all over the internet. Easiest way is to right click on the desktop and select "new" then "new text document". In this text document you put the command to run the logging application.
Here is the command I use for the configuration called: me7logger.cfg and COM3.
%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe /K C:\ME7Logger_DIST_29072011_v1.06\bin\ME7Logger.exe -p COM3 me7logger.cfg (Huom jos käytät USB-kaapelia niin parametriksi tulee vain -f -p COM3 tilalle)
save the text doc with the extention .bat to let windows know to execute the commands. Save this somehwere easy to remember and double double click on it to run the logging.
If everything goes well it will start logging. Use ecuXplot to graph the data.
